Rebecca Leonard

Aerialist and actor is sought after for her strength and grace in the air. She choreographs and performs locally and internationally for many of the high level circus companies in Canada including Hangtime, Circus Orange, HighStrung, Cirque Sublime and Anti-Gravity to name a few. In 2003 she founded A Girl In The Sky Productions, an aerial theatre company that produces innovative and media acclaimed aerial theatre shows in Canada and on the international stage. At home on the ground and in the air, she brings creativity, professionalism and experience to any project she participates in. Teaching experiences include: Head aerial coach/Toronto School of Circus Arts, Cirque du Monde, Cirkids, WiseFool New Mexico and workshops throughout the U.S. Canada and China. Film credits include appearances in The Tuxedo with Jackie Chan and award winning, Chicago. Choreography for theatre productions "Suspension" and 'Not Yet, At All". Aerial performances featured at events such as Just for Laughs Festival, Toronto Film Festival, CNE, Calgary Stampede and Vancouver Comedy Festival.

Ana Shepherd

Ana is a professional aerialist who has been working in the circus industry in various capacities since 1997. Fusing her academic knowledge in Kinesiology with a strong athletic background and a passion for performance, Ana has enjoyed both instructing and performing with some of Canada's finest circus companies, including Hangtime Presents, Cirque Sublime, Highstrung, CirquePlus, and Cirque Eos. Recent show clients include; Toronto Star, Rogers, Virgin Records, and Live Nation.
Ana is based out of Toronto and specializes in aerial, particularly aerial silks, an apparatus that demands power, strength, flexibility, and grace. Partner balancing and acro-dance draw on her strong movement skills, creativity, and passion for exploring new ways to push her body. She loves teaching all forms of circus and helping students of all levels push the boundaries of what they thought they were capable of.

Stacy Clark

Stacy Clark is an aerial acrobat, street performer, stilt walker, physical theatre performer and instructor who has been performing and teaching internationally since 1998. Stacy is one our regular instructors but sadly will not be joining us this year. She sends her best to all of you and will see you in 2010!

Angola Murdoch

Angola has been working in the theatre industry for over ten years. In this time she has worked on and off the stage. Angola created Phenomenatrix Productions in 2000 and has been producing shows in Toronto ever since. She produced Capoeira, Capuera a theatrical educating the audience on the Brazilian art form Capoeira. This show played to 10 sold out audiences and got rave revues. Paula Citron from the Globe and Mail writes, "The packed house of a mostly younger demographic was wildly enthusiastic in its response, and with good reason. It is a thoroughly enjoyable and informative show." Angola went on to produce cabarets and full lengths theatricals. As well as producing her own work Angola has worked as a producer, stage manager and technical director for many theatre companies. These included technical director The Second City Toronto, Martin Short, Volcano Theatre, OverAll Dance, Andrea Nann Dream Walker, Driftwood theatre, and The Banff Centre of the Arts. Angola's childhood was spent mostly upside down. Her background in gymnastics and dance facilitate her ease in movement in the air and on the ground. Angola has trained and performed in a multitude of movement disciplines including ten years capoeira, aerial dance and hand balancing. Recently she produced and performed her solo show Twist of fate which won "most heart felt dance show 2008" Globe and Mail December 22 2008 -Paula Citron. Angola is an international performer some highlights of her career include; Electric Cabaret (Hawaii), Kuten (Grass Roots Festival, Ithaca NY), Mercury Descent (LuminaTo Festival, Harbourfront Centre Toronto) and Grace (Nuit Blanche 2007, Toronto).

Annie Dugan

Annie is an aerialist, actor, writer, director and producer. She is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Firefly Theatre, a company dedicated to merging the spectacle of circus arts with an accessible theatrical narrative. Annie is the founder and Program Director of Firefly’s Aerial Arts program, teaching trapeze and more to community members. Since graduating from the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre, Annie has performed her work at festivals and events in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and Asia. She produces Firefly Theatre’s annual events, Let There Be Height and Fly By Night, as well as directed and produced 2007’s aerial-musical-spectacle Duck Duck Bang. Annie is the recipient of the 2007 Mayor’s Award for Innovative Artistic Direction.

Jasmin Kortright

Joining us this year from Toronto, Jasmin is a certified Kripalu yoga teacher. As the daughter of a yoga teacher, Jasmin began learning yoga at an early age, and it has remained a supportive undercurrent throughout her life. Growing up she trained primarily in ballet and Horton (a form of modern dance). She was a member of the Horizontal Dance Company from 1995-1999, and taught a weekly choreography class in 2000. Since then she has gone on to train in various forms of martial arts. She gained her yoga teaching certificate in 2005, and currently works as a teacher at the Yoga Pranayam Centre, and trains in tae kwon do and swing dance.

Guest Instructors

We have some world class guest instructors teaching a wide range of workshops! Dave the Rave is a veteran street performer from Japan who will be teaching hat tricks, juggling and character development in Week one of the retreat. Lilia Cangemi, www.aquaticdance.com. Lilia is a ballerina, contemporary dancer and body worker and will focus on movement and alignment in modern dance. Gene Gerrard has competed internationally as a figure skater and in group acrobatics. He brings decades of coaching experience to his workshop in partner acrobatics. Solenne is a theatre educator and poi specialist. She will be offering workshops in beginner poi and juggling. Ernest Jackson brings spunk and funk to his always entertaining hip-hop classes. These fantastic instructors round out our all-star cast of instructors.
